Our core thesis is that human educators are the most essential value creators in a learning experience, and that properly designed computer applications can significantly increase an educator's productivity through augmentation, applications, and analysis.
Our augmentation research focuses on our modular open-source learning management system, which puts control of data and applications back in the hands of educators and individuals. Our LMS provides a one-click strategy to create an application, control the data it uses, and analyze the information it produces. It allows anyone to study performance indicators and educator behavior, and build a customized LMS with features like messaging, surveying, interactive curriculum, and cloud computing. Entities that self-host the LMS can voluntarily contribute any amount of anonymized data and/or perform their own independent analysis.
Our application research focuses on how effective our products are in motivating learners. For example, we compared whether a game is more effective at introducing kids to code than a traditional course. We also perform technical research on containerized applications that we publish in open-source courses and technical whitepapers.
Our analysis research focuses on how effective our products are in influencing education strategy and learner outcomes. The culture of systematic examination is less prominent in education research as in other scientific disciplines, and most education technology products never undergo rigorous analysis. All of our products have analysis as a standard product feature, and aim to provide reproducible evidence of an application's effectiveness.
For developers, we provide a range of development tools and testing strategies to create education applications for our open-source LMS. We aim to make the process of learning to create a "teaching app" as fun and inspiring as possible.
